The Irish Beef Industry is enjoying a boom at the minute within the German market. It has in fact grown six-fold in as many years.
Following a huge promotional push and government agencies, Irish beef exports reached close to €120 million in 2014, rising from just €50 million in 2011. 2015’s figures remained strong, but a new campaign has been launched with the aim of increasing beef exports by another 50% by 2018.
Germany represents Ireland’s fourth largest food and drink export market, valued at €565 million in 2014. Irish products, in particular beef, are widely available in all of the major German retailers.
German president Joachim Gauck noted that the German market continues to offer Irish producers of sustainable premium products, excellent potential for growth. He cited Bord Bia’s Origin Green programme as having been well received by the German food industry.
This is certainly good news for any Irish producers looking to increase their sales abroad.
